The second annual "Joint Parade", a walk benefiting
the Arthritis Foundation, went off without a hitch. Unlike the first year when it
absolutely rained cats and dogs, this year not a drop fell with temperatures in the 60s
and partly cloudy skies. There were over 200 walkers, dozens of dogs, and
about ten corporate sponsors. Overall 25,000 clams was raised. I
actually came in third place for individual fund raisers ($540) which meant I won a
hat. Cool eh! Below are some photos my wife took.
It was a lot of fun. I did the 10K walk in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. A good
pace. Sam the Golden Retriever managed to keep up and keep her licks to a
minimum. She was the recipient of a great deal of attention. Everywhere we
went folks wanted to pet her and asked how old she was (2 years). Of course all of
the male dogs turned their heads to watch Sam (Samantha) as she walked on by.
Thank you all for your support.
Well, I thought you charitable but not stupid people would want some
evidence that I actually did this walk. On the left you see me (and Sam) wearing the
official arthritis walk T-shirt. On the right Sam and I are anxious to start the show. I
am standing at the starting gate enjoying my morning java while Sam scopes out the scene.
The starter has signaled "on your mark". Most of
us just look at her and grin. Sam on the other hand is busy making new friends.
