Hurricane Florence

2 days before Florence

Hurricane Florence

Carolina Lake is a dammed lake. A few days prior to the storm, the lake was lowered in preparation of Florence.

One day after Flo. The lake is starting to rise.

Swans like the storm.

Apparently so do the ducks.

Hurricane Florence

2 days after Florence. It has rained constantly since early Friday. The wind gusted to between 40 and 60 mph on Friday 9/14. We lost power Friday night around 8 pm and was restored Saturday at 11:30 Am. Fortunately we have a generator. Friday night we slept with the bedroom windows open which was fairly comfortable with the breeze. However we did not sleep well with the constant wind and rain. It is Sunday morning and it is still raining. The estimate is about 10 inches of rain so far in our area. The wind has subsided.

Hurricane Florence

Sunday 9/16 11 am no water in basement. At 1:30 pm we found this mess.

Hurricane Florence

One of our rugs was soaked and is a lost cause.

Hurricane Florence

Basement did pretty well considering none stop rain for 3 days 20+ inches of rain. However we finally got some water coming in along bottom of back wall. Good news is crawl space is perfectly dry.

Hurricane Florence

Ureka!!! Finally the rain has stopped.

Hurricane Florence

So we got water in the basement which is not a finished basement. There is concrete, brick, lights, and a fan. No real damage other than a rug we had on the floor. We opened both sliding glass dorrs, basement roll up door, turned on the fans, and used shop vac to drain out the water. We have filled up the shop vac 15 times. Almost completely dry. I figure by mid afternoon Monday we should be good.

Hurricane Florence

We heard several roads are closed. Also some people in neighborhood have finished basement with carpeting and furniture that did not do so well as the basement got flooded and could not be saved. We are very fortunate.
