The Basilica of St. John was the first place we stopped, so we were fresh and excited to be there.

This church was built by the Emperor Justinian over the tomb of Saint John the Apostle.  There is a grate over the tomb, and you are supposed to be able to see smoke, indicating that he is still breathing.

The church is really a ruin, but there were lovely bits here and there.
