St Peter's Basilica

The 12 apostles appear as statues across the top of St Peter's Basilica. 

But count the statues -- there are only 10! The builders thought it would not be fair to include Peter, since the whole church honored him -- and they left out Judas for obvious reasons.

The letters in the band of gold are twelve feet high.

See the giant black columns at the four corners of the altar? This is the reason they took the bronze decorative ceiling from the portico to the Pantheon.
