The Allies bombed the heck out of the coast just before
the landings. We got some great pictures of the craters.
Another crater, along the walkway that leads to the site.
Huge crater.
What must it have been like to climb these chalk cliffs?
It had been raining, and the cliffs crumbled as the Rangers climbed them.
Mom has to help Junior get out of the crater.
Filled in so nicely with grass, the craters look
upholstered.
This seemed like a spot where you could spend an hour or
more wandering silently around, looking at the remains of the embattlements,
and staring out to sea.
But alas we were rushed
away to the next stop.
A tribute to the Army Rangers who climbed the chalk
cliffs here.
